Servers Upgrade Cost Estimation
Goal
2 servers with following configuration per server:
- Chasis and MB: 1U rack mounted SuperServer 6016T-URF4+ : $1,300
- CPU: 2 x Intel Xeon X5690 : 2x$1,600 = $3,200
- RAM: 48GB (12x4GB) DDR3-1333 ECC : $1,200
- HDD: 4 x WD RE4-GP WD2002FYPS, 2TB (HITACHI 3TB) SATA HDD : 4x$250 = $1,000
TOTAL per server: $6,700
TOTAL for the upgrade: $6,700 x 2 servers = $13,400
Stage 1
1 server with following configuration per server:
- Chasis and MB: 1U rack mounted SuperServer 6016T-URF4+ : $1,300
- CPU: 2 x Intel Xeon X5690 : 1x$1,600 = $1,600
- RAM: 24GB (6x4GB) DDR3-1333 ECC : $600

TOTAL for the upgrade: $4,500 x 1 server = $4,500

Why not just use Amazon EC2 servers, or other VMs? I bet you could get a VM provider to donate machine for your use. Keep the money that has been donated for more development efforts!
